New Year's Day-1936
New York City
2:30 am
The Plaza Hotel
Pairings: J. Edgar Hoover/Clyde Tolson
Clyde is telling the story.

The floor continued to sway under my feet, as we unclasped hands and stepped from the limo. Walking up the red velvet carpet to the front door of, The Plaza, I could hear the drunken shouts of, "Happy New Year! Happy, nineteen-thirty six!"

Through the foyer, and into a waiting elevator, I stood silently by Edgar. The attendant pushed the button for our floor. Closing my eyes, I could feel the waves of annoyance coming from Edgar. Did I really announce to everyone my desire to dance with him at the club? Judging from the high pitched giggles coming from Art's girlfriend she assumed I was joking. I noticed Art cracked a smile. Seconds later, I felt Edgar squeeze my hand tighter. A sure sign he was not amused by my behavior.

The bell chimed, the elevator came to an abrupt stop.

"Goodnight, gentlemen."

I gave a courteous reply, while Edgar responded with his usual grunt.
The hallway seemed larger than usual. My head began to clear. We stopped in front of our hotel suite. Taking the key from his vest pocket, Edgar inserted it into the lock, and pushed the door open.

"Wash your face, and brush your teeth. Meet me in the sitting room when you have finished."

It was the first words Edgar had spoken to me since he whispered, "Happy New Year, you drunk," into my ear at The Stork Club.

Locking myself in the powder room, I turned on the taps. Taking a washcloth from the drawer I held it under the water. On the other side of the door, I could hear shuffling noises. Was Edgar moving something? What if he's packing to leave? My stomach churned at the possibility. Was he that upset?

Quickly, I brushed my teeth and gargled with baking soda. Patting my face dry, I turned the water off, and took a deep breath. Bracing myself for the worst, I opened the door. Silence and darkness greeted me.

"Edgar?"

"Come out to the balcony, Clyde."

I blinked in surprise at the cheerful tone in his voice. Navigating my way through the poorly lit suite, I caught the sight of Edgar leaning over the balcony rail, peering at the crowds below in Times Square. I heard the sounds of jazz music wafting through the air. He had set up the phonograph player on the balcony.

"Did you clean up?" He asked, as I crept outside, still wary as to what was about to happen.

I nodded my head, and walked over to him. Glancing down, I noticed the large crowds wandering about the streets. Occasionally, a muffled shout, or drunken laughter would drift up. After a few seconds of people watching, I felt Edgar's hand on my shoulder. His fingers trailing over my neck. I took a deep breath, and out of habit arched my back like a cat. Closing my eyes, I tilted my face down for a kiss.

I leaned my head against his, pulling him towards me. "Are you still mad?"

Edgar's arms circled my waist, he shifted to lean against my shoulder. "Not as much as I should be, Mr. Tolson."

"I'll take that as a sign that everything is forgiven?"

In response, Edgar unhooked the button on my trousers, and dipped his hand in. I arched, and dug my nails into his back, as he wrapped his fingers around me.

"Does that answer your question?"

A small gasp escaped my mouth. I pulled tighter against him.

"Clyde, quit shaking. No one can see us up here."

He pulled back, and smiled that mischievous smile of his. "Do you still want that dance, Mr. Tolson?"

I could only nod my head. Closing my eyes, I pressed him back against me. He continued running his fingers over me. We stayed like that for a good ten minutes. Swaying to the soft voice of Louis Armstrong.
I wrote this as a historical prompt in January 2012. It's based off the movie, "J. Edgar," not the two real people. OK, they're real people, but you know what I mean. I'll probably go back and write the story as if it might have really happened. This story is also on my Tumblr acct.
